In a major festive relief ahead of Sankranti, the Andhra Pradesh coalition government has released ₹2,653 crore towards long-pending dues of government employees, pensioners, police personnel, and contractors. The Finance Department cleared the funds following directions from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, aiming to ease financial stress and boost morale during the festival season.

Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav stated that the government accorded top priority to clearing arrears that had been pending for several months. He emphasized that timely disbursement of dues was essential to support livelihoods and maintain momentum in development activities across the State.
Major Allocations Breakdown
₹1,100 crore sanctioned towards a pending instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) arrears Beneficiaries include nearly 2.25 lakh CPS employees and 2.70 lakh pensioners ₹110 crore approved for surrender leave encashment of police personnel Benefiting around 55,000 police staff ₹1,243 crore released for payments related to development works underEAP, NABARD, SASCI, and CRIF schemes Around ₹40 crore cleared towards pending bills under the Neeru–Chettu programme With the clearance of these bills, payments are being made to over 19,000 contractors who executed development works across various departments. The move is expected to accelerate stalled projects and strengthen confidence among contractors and service providers.
Festive Boost to Economy

Overall, nearly 5.70 lakh beneficiaries across Andhra Pradesh received payments and arrears ahead of Sankranti. The initiative is being viewed as a significant step towards financial discipline, employee welfare, and economic revival, especially in rural and semi-urban regions. The government reiterated its commitment to clearing pending liabilities in a phased manner while maintaining fiscal prudence, ensuring that welfare and development go hand in hand.
